Ramiz Memedov, Aftandil Hacıyev, and Ruslan Hacıyev—three generations of footballers who once stormed the Azerbaijani pitches but saw their careers cut short by severe knee injuries—have regained their health thanks to surgery performed by a Turkish doctor. The three players say, “We’ve become like his own sons.”

All three suffered severe knee injuries within the last 20 years, and it was widely believed they would never return to the field. However, a Turkish physician, orthopedic and trauma specialist Prof. Dr. Mehmet Binnet, came to their rescue. The three soccer players express their gratitude to Prof. Binnet, who successfully performed surgeries that allowed them to return to the field, saying, “We became like his own sons; thanks to him, we were able to continue our love for soccer.”

The treatments were unsuccessful
It was thought he would never be able to return to the field. When treatments in many countries also failed to produce results, he turned to Prof. Dr. Binnet as a last resort. Binnet successfully performed a successful surgery on Memedov, enabling him to return to the field in a short time. After ending his successful soccer career, Memedov, who became the head coach of Qebele—a team competing at the top level of Azerbaijani soccer—says he is grateful to his doctor for enabling him to remain connected to the sport he is so passionate about while also continuing to earn a living.
Ramiz Memedov is not alone in these feelings. During his tenure as head coach, one of his team’s best young players, Aftandil Hacıyev, suffered the same fate—a severe knee injury. Memedov immediately called his own doctor and said, “I’ll provide any support needed—just perform the surgeries on this player and get him ready for next season,” and thanks to the surgery performed by Prof. Binnet, Aftandil Hacıyev began training with the team at the start of the 2009 season.

Just when you thought his soccer career was over!

After a successful playing career, Aftandil became a head coach in 2018. Ruslan Hacıyev, a talented young player who is also a true soccer enthusiast and from whom Azerbaijani soccer has high hopes for the future, has suffered a knee injury this time. The problem of a torn anterior cruciate ligament—a common injury among soccer players—struck Ruslan during a match when he was just 16 years old. Aftandil immediately stepped in and referred Ruslan Hacıyev—who had previously undergone surgery twice in different years for the same condition—to his own doctor. Everyone had said Ruslan “would never return to the field,” but thanks to the surgery, he is now experiencing the astonishment, excitement, and joy of being able to play soccer again in such a short time. As the only son in a family of three children, Ruslan says he sets aside a portion of his earnings from soccer to support his family.
